Air Force Selection Board
2 AFSB Mysore, 16th - 22nd
March, 2015
Batch # M/AFCAT/CDSE/NCC/204
Candidate Piyush Varshney
Chest # 63
Recommended and medically fit for Flying and Ground
Duty (Admin)
To join the defence services is the ultimate dream of
many. The same was the case with me. The dream had incubated in me for years. To
realise that dream I appeared in the AFCAT in the month of August. For that, I thoroughly studied the Indian History,
Geography, Political Science and current affairs and did practice for aptitude
and reasoning. I cleared the test with a decent score of 158. Honestly the exam is
not at all tough. The real challenge is
clearing the Air Force Selection Board or AFSB (or SSB in general). I opted for the AFSB on 16th March, 2015 at Mysore which was
probably the last AFSB of the session. For AFSB I mainly focused on interview and
psychological tests. I profoundly read daily
newspapers like Hindu and magazines like Frontline. I ensured that I am
well aware about the current issues going on in the world and especially
related to India and the countries associated with India in one way or the
other. I also apprised myself with the
history of Indian Air Force and the aircrafts it possesses. I explored
about myself and the people associated with me like my parents, friends,
teachers through self – introspection
which is a very important aspect from psychology and interview point of view.
And most imperatively I focused very
strictly on my fitness. I used to go for running in the morning and to the
gym in the evening for about 2 hours every day. I built up stamina and enhanced
my strength.

All you need to know about Indian Air Force - Part1
Critical Analysis of our Indian Air Force
The Indian Air Force (IAF) formerly
known as the Royal Indian Air Force(RIAF)
came into being after India achieved in
1947 from the British rule. The Royal prefix was dropped in 1950 when India
became a republic. Since 1950 till today this unit of the Indian Armed Forces
has never looked back, and has and continues to march forward towards
sophistication and state of the art technology.
Since independence IAF had been in four wars with Pakistan and one with China. India
might have lost war with China due to improper military planning, but it had
only grown stronger since then. Machines may have been old at that time but the
valor and determination of these sons
and daughters of the motherland have never faded, had never shaken and never
will. With 5 Operational Commands and 2 Functional Commands the Indian Air
Force stands tall among the strongest Air forces of the world.

SSB Experience : Recommended for the Indian Army TGC-121 entry
Screening Day
Got up early, refreshed my mind and focused on the officer qualities I should
show to them.
OIR was pretty much easy.
I wrote story based on the current event,
ex: Nepal earth quake and rescue operation.
Qualities reflected in my story: helping nature, initiative, alertness and
adventurism.
Don’t include the above qualities intentionally into your story, stick to the
normal flow of your story.
I tried to avoid book stories. There
was a clear idea of past, present and future in my story and I narrated the
story confidently.

Mother's Day Special : MAA
Everything happens in
life for the first time but most of the memories attached in our heart are
related to our mother. When the child is born the first word that is pronounced
is “MAA” , the first learning of life is also given by a mother. Mother forms
the base of every child and the learning of traditional values inherited by a
person is also dependent on that. It will not be wrong if I say that we live
life because of mother life and we exist because of her only in this world.

SSB GD Series: Net Neutrality: Who benefits? Who Pays?
Recently the words Net
Neutrality have taken the media by storm. Everyday we hear some protesting against it while some in support of it. The
argument is over the fact that People who pay
more for internet usage will get a higher speed and access to sites and
other work which involves internet whereas those who would pay less or won’t pay at all will have limited options, their speed
will be limited and would not be able to able to access content which they
able to access now. This has caused a huge debate among the masses as Internet
is one body which should be equal for all.
The debate over whether Net Neutrality should be applied in India and
the Airtel Zero program has involved some of the biggest names in Media and
Internet.

SSB Lecturette Series: NOTA - Good or Bad
The ‘None of the
above’ (NOTA) option was introduced for
the first time in 1978, in a ballot by the State of Nevada.
In 2009, the Election Commission of India
asked the Supreme Court that to offer the voter a ‘None of the above’
option at the ballot as it would give Voters the right not to choose the
candidate who is not appropriate. The Government was not in favor of such an
idea at that time.
