Since the time immemorial, women have been barred from entering religious places like Sabarimala Shrine in Kerala in the name of ‘tradition’. The restrictions posed on them prohibit them from practicing the basic right to freely worship places of their choice. While women and the Travancore Devaswom Board, which controls the access to shrine, have their own arguments to support, January 18 is the day when Supreme Court will decide the fate of women in this regard.

SSB Awareness series: EPF Taxed in new Budget

  As per Budget 2016, all contributions and interest accrued to employee provident fund (EPF) before April 1, 2016, will not attract any tax on withdrawal. Withdrawal of principal amount contributed to EPF after April 1 would also remain exempt from any tax. It is only the interest on contributions made after April 1, 2016 which will be taxed.

What led to the fiasco?
Students from the Jawaharlal Nehru University organized an event on Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru who was hanged in 2013. This was to be done the day after Guru’s third death anniversary. The event organizers had pasted posters across the campus inviting students to gather for a protest march against “judicial killing of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat” and in solidarity with the “struggle” of Kashmiri migrants at the Sabarmati dhaba in the campus.
