The BJP is now ready for the final battle
— the battle to “invade” Bihar and tell chief minister Nitish Kumar that his
decision to break alliance with its long-standing partner was the biggest folly
of his political career.
Although the BJP has been silently working on its strategy for quite some time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to Bihar on Saturday is expected to give a fillip to his party’s poll campaign already launched last week by the party boss Amit Shah. Faced with the challenges, the party has been working really hard for the past fortnight to make his political rally a grand success. BJP has fielded an army of ministers and top leaders in every corner of the state, put up hoardings and billboards at vantage points in the cities and is also giving full front page ads in local newspapers to ensure the rally ground fills to the brim.
Why was there a
pressure on BJP when PM already draws a very good crowd?
Having faced humiliating defeats in the
recent Delhi elections where the BJP could win barely three seats out of 70,
the BJP has at presently made significant changes in its blueprints and is
focusing on a twin strategy — present Modi as the “panacea” of all ills by
highlighting his achievements as the Prime Minister of India and then expose
the double-standard of Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar, arch-rivals who turned
friends in the name of stopping BJP.

Also, PM was expected to announce a bouquet of gifts
to the poll-bound Bihar during his party rally at Muzaffarpur town, and the BJP
wants a good crowd to attend the rally to convey the PM’s “message of hope”
among the countrymen who miss hearing him due to some reasons.
Modi's visit attains a lot of importance
from the fact that he is coming to the state for the first time since becoming
the Prime Minister. During the LS poll campaigns last summer, Modi, in the
capacity of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, had made an extensive tours of
the state, holding election rallies in 27 parliamentary constituencies out of
Bihar’s total 40, apart from also addressing a whopping 175 3-D rallies across
the state. It was during his extensive election campaigns that he made a bunch
of promises for Bihar — from granting special category status and special
assistance to the special financial package for Bihar, a demand Nitish had been
making for long.
With the opposition constantly gunning him
for reneging from his poll promises, Modi has offered a plethora of sops for
Bihar. They include granting a special financial package of 1.25 lakh crore for Bihar on the pattern of Andhra Pradesh,
announcement of a 4000-MW ultra-mega power plant, expansion of IOC refinery and
revival of Barauni Fertiliser, AIIMS-like institution in north Bihar,
development of Motihari and Nalanda as educational hubs and a bridge over Ganga
near Mokama as a new lifeline.
That is in addition to the inauguration
and flagging of many other projects which include inauguration of IIT Patna’s
Bihta campus and first phase of Jagdishpur-Haldia gas pipeline project,
flagging off Patna-Mumbai Suvidha train, launching of 38-km
Daniyawan-Biharsharif rail line and Deen Dayan Upadhyay rural electrification
scheme worth Rs 5,000 crore. All these announcements are likely to keep the
BJP-led NDA ahead in the race even as Nitish is adopting similar tactics to woo
back the voters in a bid to get another term.
The story is still complete, in next part of this series we will see the strategies of both the parties to capture the vote bank and is it right to do so. Your views on this as the youth of country will be really important. So keep watching for more.
