Introduction
The much awaited legislative assembly election
of Bihar is over. The election was held over 5 phases in Bihar through October-November
before the end of the tenure of the
current Legislative assembly. Overall Bihar is divided into 9 divisions and 38 districts for
administrative purposes. It has 243
seats in its Legislative assembly. It is one of the 7 states of India where
Bicameral legislature exists.
In
April,2015 the Janta parivar dal (a
group of 6 parties) announced their intention to fight the election with Nitish
kumar as their chief ministerial candidate. The janta parivar was joined by
Indian National congress and the Nationalist congress party. This coalation was
renamed as Mahagathbandhan when
samajwadi party, samajwadi janta party, Indian national lok dal and janta Dal
departed from the party.The Bhartiya Janta party led NDA front fight the
election along with Lok Janshakti party, the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party and the
Hindustani Awam Morcha. This
election saw highest voter turnout in Bihar assembly polls since 2000, with a 56.8% voter
turnout in this election.
Result:
It was hat-trick for Nitish Kumar as the JDU-RJD-Congress coalition
of Grand Alliance recorded a landslide victory in the Bihar assembly elections. The Grand Alliance was sweep a whopping 178 of the 243 seats, leaving the BJP which wanted to oust
Nitish Kumar and its allies with just 58 seats. Among the Mahagathbandhan
allies, Janata Dal-United won 71 seats, Rashtriya Janata Dal 80 seats and
Congress 27.
Reasons of failure of
the NDA:
I think that the major causes for the failure
of the NDA are as follows:
1) The BJP’s
negative campaign seems to be boomeranged, creating a sympathy wave for the
Nitish-Lalu alliance.
2) The BJP’s failure
in implementing promises it made at the centre, like getting back black
money from foreign countries, controlling price rise and addressing the
agrarian crisis.
3) The election has been turned into an ‘outsiders’ versus ‘locals’ contest, which is working against
the NDA alliance.
4) Finally, rising intolerance and the recent spate of
communal incidents across the country involving saffron groups and the
stone-age diktats issued by BJP ministers have not gone down well with the
people of the country. These incidents will certainly have a backlash in the
Bihar election.
5) Was it the magic of caste that played in Bihar, because
BJP distributed many tickets to Yadav’s this time but the final scenario and
the result suggests that people do not believe in politics of caste now. Since
the casting of vote in Bihar has risen to new levels we should feel happy that
citizens are getting active and want to see better India.

6) Promises if made have to be kept. Now the era has gone
where the false promises made during the beginning of elections were revised
only later during the next election. People have enlightened themselves now and
if results are not delivered they know how to throw the false promisors out of
seat.
