The whole nation enjoyed their national
holiday in August the day when we remember that we are Indians. Indians who
are much more patriotic during international cricket matches or series than any
other day. Talking about patriotism, there are three days that the whole nation
celebrates as their holiday because apparently these days have significant
impact in the freedom of Indians and our country.
I can write a list of freedom
fighters that contributed and sacrificed their lives for us to enjoy the day.
We end up naming few streets and roads on these imminent personalities and rest
remains in the old books/school books. On the occasion of 69th
Independence Day, I have received a lot of messages a few were great
personalities who fought for our freedom some were patriotic and a few were
reminding the fact that Pakistan is no more a part of India and with this a
concept of undivided India.

I received quite a number of these messages. It made me think are we really happy to be an independent nation or are we proud of its successive growth or just call ourselves the dominant part over a neighboring country.
We the people of India grizzle each day
that we are Indians and keep saying, ‘nothing can happen right in this
country’. And we still cherish discriminating people on the basis of cast,
religion, status and gender. We experience a number of incidents turning into
accidents democracy turning into hypocrisy and here we lie down looking at our
mobile phones and laptop and wondering if we can even do something. We call
ourselves youth and all we do is cry upon career and relationship issues. We
may have grown enough to take the responsibilities of our family but can never
grow enough to understand our duties and rights as a citizen of India. Can we?
Each day thousands among us step forward to
be one of our protectors, one who decide to join the army, navy or air force
and looking at them gives a moment of inspiration that can fly off within a
group of words. We may cry when a family loses their son and India loses a
brave soldier but we cannot do enough to be a proud citizen. We scream enough
on the government that beholds the power to bring change but we do not
understand the responsibility of changing the government itself. This is our
country and this is our duty to protect our nation. No! Joining the army is not
the only path to be a better citizen there are a lot of duties/works we can do
to be a better citizen of our country.

Every day you bring change to yourself,
every day you decide as an Indian, be a better citizen of India every day. Why
not to come up with ideas not just to impress someone but also to exercise to
your rights, why not just protect to your family but also a helpless person
lying on the street. Are you waiting to attend another candle march? Are you
waiting for some more goons to haunt your family in the name of religion or
cast? Be a soldier in yourself.
