Psychology for SSB : Practice Series 2 - PPDT

“It doesn’t matter if you have failed, if you had been beaten. All that really matters is if you get back up and try again. Because winning is fun, but winning when nobody thought you would, is just awesome.”
Thematic appreciation test (TAT) is the very first test of the Psychology round that is conducted on candidates who clear the screening process. It consists of 12 stories out of which 11 stories are hazy and 1 blank slide is presented in front of candidate. You get 30 seconds to think and 4 minute to write the story.
SSB
The hazy pictures are presented because it is assumed that the candidate will reveal happenings of his life, through the stories. Also through these hazy pictures different situations are shown and it is expected that the qualities of social adaptation, leadership, adventure, team work might come out.One more reason for presenting a hazy picture is to check how close to reality the aspirants are? The assessors know really well what they have given and they just want to see the analysis of the aspirants, because in force things are hazy at uneven terrains and one needs to have perfect prediction , decision to take quick action keeping future results in mind.

The blank picture is presented, so as to analyse the thought process of candidate and his ability to link with the sequence shown to him. This is also linked to his imagination power as through this blank slide the psychologist tries to gather the idea of what a candidate has in mind for his future. It might be linked to his/ her vision, mission of life.

It is also said that the qualities that the psychologist gathers are compared with those shown in PIQ and forwarded to GTO and PI officer for crosschecking. So if anyone wants to fake in SSB it is not at all possible because similar things would be checked throughout in all the processes and if they interfere then only can a candidate have his chances for recommendation. Now everybody would be thinking of how to write an effective story. So here it is. Remember your story should have the following:
·         A hero performing some action
·         Description of environmental conditions
·         Different characters
·         Main theme and story should revolve around that
·         Past, present , future related events of story

Few tips to make stories effective:
·         Hero of story as framed by you should have a name
·         Hero should deliver an action which is possible in real life.
·         Theme of story should be positive, try to show your optimistic nature.
·         Age , sex and mood of the hero and relevant character should also come out of story
·         Try avoiding grammatical errors to make story more effective
·         It should be written clearly, so that the efforts of psychologist goes in extracting qualities and not in guessing what is written
·         Try to convert negative pictures also  in positive tone

With these tips and tricks in mind lets practice TAT to see our preparedness and we at SSB Vision will evaluate the stories as per appropriateness. So what are you waiting for. Get yourself evaluated.See the SAMPLE PICTURE below. Write your story for this in the comment section and recieve my reviews for free.
SSB Vision
Sample picture for writing story

Rules:
1) One person should write one story only along with their names.
2) The story should be written in a time bound manner only and should be written in the same way as one writes at SSB for psychology round, so that the exact exam condition can be replicated.
3) The story in the comment section will only be evaluated. Don't see the stories of other aspirants while writing the story and try to write your own original idea.
4) Remember no answer is right or wrong in psychology. You only need to mention the first thought that comes to your mind after seeing the picture.

Rajeev suddenly lighted a cigarette and started smoking. Anand immediately objected to it, although Sangeet wasn't his own son. He politely explained to Rajeev that he should not be smoking in presence of children and also alerted Sumit that he should not expose his son to practices like smoking at such a tender age. Rajeev felt embarrassed and apologized, and immediately put off the cigarette and threw it into the dustbin.

    2. hey JP!! dont you think you are appreciating wrong stories? I appreciate you for your initiative to help candidates to prepare for ssb. This story lacks all the olqs infact it projects a candidate negatively. when we are writing a story we are the hero ourselves and whatever we write is expected to be our approach in same situation. so ayushi has wriiten about traffickers because of financial crisis.. in that case she is projecting herself as acceptor of wrong paths. if she ever hits financial crisis she would turn into a child trafficker. Please guide them in best ways. Regards..

    3. Thanks for taking out time for evaluation anonymously. The plot thought was of child trafficing and this was the first idea that struck her mind and the same was expressed. The way the story unfolds reveals the qualities of the personality and that seems to be a good start. However a negative background might create problem, but these things are personally discussed in the feedback. We prefer and motivate aspirants to work with the very first idea and not fake ideas just for the sake of revealing OLQ.

  7. Rahul was playing cards at his friends home when his friend started smoking in presence of child. He immediately asked his friend to stop smoking. To ensure that same is not repeated in future he explained him how a father is a role model for children and ill effects of even passive smoking. He reminded him whenever he got opportunity. Rahul ensured the same during his future visits at his home. With his efforts his friends realised his mistake. Rahul was happy and never hesitate to point out friends commiting similar mistakes.
