Is North Korea On the path of Progress?

North and South Korea are divided by 38^TH parallel line because when Japan surrendered in Aug 1945 the 38^th parallel was established as the boundary between soviet and American occupation zone and roughly dividing the Korean peninsula. North Korea is a nation in the Korean peninsula has a very different image to the rest of the world as a country. There is propaganda going on in the favor of government.

They have set of approved hair cuts for both male and female. They have set of approved wardrobes .Tourist are not allowed to take photographs. Recently there was a news that a American tourist who was accused of trying to steal the propaganda poster from the hotel room in 2015. He was arrested and sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment. In the capital Pyongyang people are forced to come out for paying tributes to the statues of late Koreans leaders such kimyong il. 

But there is one more thing because of which North Korea is in headlines:  the nuclear Programme. In 2017 North Korea tested two nuclear missile one which was capable to hit Alaska and second was able to hit California named as Hwasong-14 and also tested kiloton 120 boosted nuclear fission .All these things brought USA in the picture and president Donald trump called Kim yong Un “Little man got Mad”. This brought equal outrage from North Korea and it gave warning to attack Guam.

When North Korea pulled out of the NPT in 2003. UN imposed sanctions on North Korea but North Korea continued to test the nuclear weapons. The prolonged sanctions had bad impact on the economy.

1. Monthly export plunged from 240 million dollar to 50 million dollar in 2016

2. Export to china reduced by 81% to 54 million dollar

But the hardship has not caused any internal protest or revolution. North Korean people faced the hardship of the sanctions from 1994 to 1998 when there was tight media and political control over the people.

But thanks to the Olympics diplomacy of South Korean president Moon Jae He. He in 2018 gave invitation to North Korean players to join the winter Olympics .North Korea accepted the invitation and this leads to the meeting between two leaders and also resulted the meeting with USA President Donald Trump. This meeting has brought up so many positive outcomes .North Korea had decided to stop all nuclear enrichment activities; it will stop advancing the short range missile system that was made for targeting South Korea.

And this has also brought some favorable outcomes for Korean peninsula:

1. USA will not install THAAD(Thermal High altitude Area Defense system) in South Korea

2. USA will withdraw its forces from DMZ(demilitarize military zone).it was a highly militarized zone in the world where forces were deployed

3. USA cancelled the military exercise with South Korea so that both leaders can meet with each other without any hindrance.

India’s interest in stable Korean peninsula

India has longstanding diplomatic ties with North Korea and even pressure from USA it refused to reduce the diplomatic ties .North Korean Foreign Minister RI su yong visited India in 2015. There are reports that Centre for space science and technology in Asia and the pacific located in dehradun had been providing technical education to North Korean scientists. Recently India’s junior minister VK Singh visited North Korea and held meetings with several top level Korean ministers. A stable Korean peninsula will bring down the Chinese involvement in the affairs of the country’s internal matters n and also the foreign policy will be more precise and productive.
