SSB Experience Series:Ten tips for Achieving your GOALS

Finally I achieved AIR -71 UPSC CAPF-AC 2016. My dream is a reality which I saw four years back. There is a long struggle behind this and I achieved because of my patience and dedication. There is no substitute to the hard work which I firmly believe now. Abhishek has a lot to say and we would hear his words directly  from this article.
SSB

Hello friends,
For the benefit of all the defense aspirants i want to share something. If a single one of you will get benefited from this, will consider it worth giving time to.

I wrote more than 10 exams and attended 9 SSBs (6 conferences) . I faced PIB (for Territorial army ) twice and 1 CAPF AC(my winning attempt). This entire journey lasted for almost 4 years. So having spent lots of time in preparation, i think i am eligible to write something which can be beneficial to others.
These will be my personal opinions and observations, so please take them only if you agree on them. So here we go for the learning:
1) Don’t plan things according to SSB in life. Prepare for SSB and go with the mindset that “Ho gaya to achha hai varna koi badi bat nahi hai. ”
2) Prepare hard for SSB but keep the fact in mind that SSB is quite uncertain process until you do proper introspection. It involves a bit of luck.
3) Always keep this thing in mind that your every failed attempt is making you better and getting you closer to your dream. For example in my case All my failed SSB attempts helped me in UPSC interview. The things which I learned while preparing for SSB gave me edge over my fellow competitor’s in this examination.
4) Have a second best aim like I had. In case you don’t make it to Army navy and air force, you have other options handy.
5) What i feel preparation of SSB doesn’t take too much of your time in a particular day, if the preparation is done regularly and in the right direction under the right guidance. DEVOTE rest of your time in preparing for your second best aim.
6) CAPF, Coast Guards, IPS (if you can study that much) are other options for getting an ‘A’ class uniform jobs. Each exam has altogether different style and needs different approach, so prepare accordingly after clarity.
7) One thing which I strongly believe in, have only one second best aim. Don’t focus or prepare for more than 1 exam at a time and once you decide for which exam you are going to prepare , give your everything to that exam.
8)As they say ' SSB badi cheez hai is se kabhi dil nahi lagana' adhere to this line.
Ill again say that people makes it to SSB and there are many who are equally deserving but they fails. So heartbreak’s are there in this selection system. Better you don’t take it in too emotional way, like I used to do in my initial attempts. Go, perform. Either get recommended or learn from that and perform better next time.
9) A strong backup will give you boost and will make you confident in SSB as well as at the back of your mind you will be satisfied.
10) Finally never give up upon your dream.
PS- I am not critical of SSB in any way.

  3. Thank U sir. I have a doubt in my first attempt for SSB,TES the verbal and non verbal went well. I was happy with my perfomance, attended around 39 t0 40 , both in verba; and non verbal. But I dont know waht happened in PPDT and GD , because when I compared my story to others, the were really good description far better than me; Secondly my narration was too short thirdly in GD I asserted only on one issue that is naxalism because the I found the central character in the picture , a soldier. I thought though my story was not good I make the rest part better by focussing on Naxalism as it is one of the most important issues in our society. I dont know why I was scrrened out but is it due to not so much descriptive naration or is it which I think could my deviation from the picture to Naxalism even though my story main theme was Naxalism. I m confused whether we have to speak about theme of our story or just about the story. And what to do if there couldn"t be any conclusion drawn from th discussion. Really panicked at that moment. I would be very grateful to you for your advice. Please!!!!!!

    1. One need to narrate story with confidence so as to make the group and the assesors clear about the though process and reveal the officer qualities simultaneously. You might have missed on this. Also when the GD happens, the group performance matters, so one need to come to conclusion by supporting everyone rather than just singing their own song. Work on these aspects as these are minor mistakes but can cause great loss.
