Role of NCC in Indian youths life

“NCC is shaping the character and moral fibre of our young people”: Vice President Hamid Ansari said on inauguration of Republic day parade camp, 2017. NCC is something very famous among the youth of the country as it provides an opportunity to serve the nation with uniform in multiple forms and aspect from young age. It has been designed to encourage youth to take interest towards the country service and if the performance is good, they are provided opportunity to reach directly for SSB. So this can be of multiple benefits. Lets see how.
SSB

The NCC came into existence on 16 July 1948. The basic aim of the NCC, which has both boys and girls cadets, is to instil character in the youth to make them good citizens and worthy leaders of the future in every walk of life. It is the world’s largest uniformed youth organization that imparts military training such as Physical Fitness, Leadership, Discipline, Integration, Adventure, Military, and Community Development training. NCC installs values of "Unity and Discipline" - the Motto of the NCC.
It is emerging as a major source of recruitment of officers for the armed forces. In fact 25% of the cadets currently training to be officers at the Officers Training Academy, the IMA and the NDA are from the NCC. Training in NCC instils qualities like nationalism, patriotism, discipline, team spirit, esprit-de-corps, leadership and self confidence and promotes overall personality development. NCC gives a tremendous opportunity to one and all for betterment, irrespective of caste, creed, religion or economic status.

Training and camps in N.C.C. give you a lifetime experience. Annual Training Camps (ATC), Thal Sainik Camp (TSC), National Integration Camps (NIC),      Republic Day Camp (RDC), Youth Exchange Programme (YEP), Prime Minister’s (PM’s) Rally, Army Attachment camps are some camps organised. Apart from this cadets also get chance to serve society like tree plantation, blood donation, old age homes visit, adult education, Disaster relief, AIDS and cancer awareness programmes.

Through N.C.C. education we are aware of all the basic terminologies used in our forces like Weapon training (introduction to INSAS), Drill (foot drill, drill with arms, ceremonial drills), Map reading (application of compass, reading map with grid points), Leadership training, Disaster management, Social service, health and hygiene and self – defence.

Throughout the N.C.C. we obtain ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ certificate with alpha, bravo and Charlie grades according to performance in exams. Through ‘C’ – Certificate we are eligible to apply for officer’s post in armed forces.
