The Iran Nuclear Deal! What it means? How does it impact India? : Part 2

In Part 1 of this series we saw the meaning of various terminologies related to this deal and how it can change the world shape . Here is the remaining story . In the present scenario Iran desperately needs to stabilize its economy for the government to function, and the only way to do that is get the sanctions lifted off from it and hence the deal.

Sanctions Snap Back: To make things safer, the deal includes that if one of the parties think that Iran is violating the deal, it can submit a complaint to the eight member panel comprising of (US, UK, France, Germany, China, Russia, Iran itself and the EU). The panel has at least 35 days to resolve the complaint but the decision isn’t binding. If the member is still isn’t happy with the decision it can force the United Nations Security council to put the sanctions back on. However if a majority vetoes in favor of Iran then the sanctions won’t be put into action, but if the majority too think that Iran is violating then the sanctions would be snapped back. The idea is to make it easy for US to re impose the sanctions on Iran and make it hard for China or Russian to call off the sanctions.

Nuclear Facilities: Iran would be allowed to keep its nuclear facilities at Natanz for enrichment but only for producing energy rich nuclear material and not for any other use. Also the facility at Fordow would only be used for research purposes. As for the Plutonium Plant at Arak, Iran would be allowed to make energy rich plutonium, and will ship out its spent plutonium. The idea here is that uranium and plutonium can be used to make nuclear weapons, the first part of the deal has already controlled the uranium production, this would control the plutonium production.

Inspection: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) would have complete authority to inspect the various plants Iran would be producing uranium and plutonium at. However Iran too would have certain military sites under managed access, meaning that the IAEA won’t be able to barge in the military facilities as when they desire and thus won’t have ultimate grant over the military.  Inspections are put into place to only keep a check on Iran, if Iran somehow manages to produce fissile material for nuclear bombs the IAEA watchdogs would blow up the whistle for the whole world to know which would result in the sanctions being put back on.

Role of India in the whole action

The Nuclear deal also improves relations between Washington and Tehran. With the relations improving more sanctions would be lifted off and countries like ours who have been closely working to strengthen relations with Iran, Israel and the Gulf countries would benefit a lot. Iran has been the India’s leading weapons supplier. Some of the top guns used by the Indian Armed Forces are of Iranian origin. Over the years as sanctions were put onto Iran, India which was dependent on Iran for energy supplies had to depend upon on Iran With the sanctions gone the bond of friendship between the two countries would only strengthen and pave the way for a better future. Also India backing up Iran in the recent UN Human Rights council is another proof the strengthening friendship between the two countries. With the mutual understanding the two countries has the future seems only bright for the two countries.
